08.05.2024 | 2:14 AM | IRVINE – A knife-wielding Florida man who rammed his minivan into a home and caused a gas leak before going inside and killing a paralyzed man was later shot and killed by police when he threatened officers with a knife, early Monday morning.
The incident began to unfold around 2:14 AM in the 30 block of Whistling Swan when a 2004 Honda Odyssey collided with a garage at the home of 38-year-old John Alexander Bash III.
A caregiver in the home was awaken by the impact and discovered Bash bloodied and unresponsive before calling 9-1-1.
When authorities arrived they located Bash, who is paralyzed and uses a wheelchair for mobility, deceased from multiple stab wounds. A gas leak resulting from the collision was also located but quickly secured by firefighters.
Officers searched the area for the person responsible for the homicide and later located the registered owner of the Honda, 47-year-old Aaron Matthew Shingle, of Tampa, Florida, near the intersection of Stone Creek South and West Yale Loop.
Shingle was armed with a knife and advanced towards officers prompting an officer-involved shooting. Officers immediately rendered aid to Shingle which was taken over by medics before rushing him to a nearby trauma center.
Despite their efforts, Shingle succumbed to his injuries and was pronounce deceased. Shingle’s knife was recovered at the scene.
Preliminary investigation indicates Shingle was Bash’s former caregiver though the exact circumstances surrounding the attack remains under investigation.
