The deadly collision occurred on Ortega Highway near La Novia Avenue around 12:36 AM when a vehicle driven by 85-year-old Anthony Konstantine Kalomas, of San Juan Capistrano, collided with a pedestrian, according to law enforcement.

The pedestrian, identified as 23-year-old Cesar Amilcar Zuniga Ruiz, of Los Angeles, sustained severe injuries and was later pronounced deceased on scene, a sheriff’s department press release indicates.

Kalomas fled the scene but was later located and placed under arrest on suspicion of hit-and-run. It was unclear how Kalomas was located and intoxication was not said to be a factor in the collision, the relase added.

Video from the scene shows an elderly male being interviewed by law enforcement though it was unclear if that man was Kalomas.

A Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the collision and additional details regarding the collision were not immediately available, law enforcement said.
