07.23.2026 | 8:00 PM | SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO – A man was arrested after stealing a marked Los Angeles Police Department patrol car from outside BMO Stadium, Wednesday night.
The theft occurred around 8:00 PM at BMO Stadium near 38th Street and Figueroa Street in Exposition Park, according to LAPD radio traffic. The Los Angeles Football Club was hosting Real Salt Lake at the stadium when the theft occurred.
The stolen vehicle was a marked black-and-white Crown Victoria equipped with a light bar, the radio traffic indicated. A LAPD representative confirmed no weapons were inside the cruiser when it was taken.
The suspect fled the area as officers on the ground and the air tried to locate the vehicle.
Around 9:30 PM, CHP received a call reporting a police vehicle on I-5 near La Paz Road in Laguna Hills, according to CHP radio traffic. The vehicle was seen traveling with its rear amber lights flashing and swerving in lanes, the radio traffic added.
Officers located the Crown Victoria and conducted a traffic stop on southbound I-5 near Ortega Highway. The driver was taken into custody at the scene and officers relocated the suspect and stolen patrol vehicle to their office.
Both the suspect and the stolen patrol car were turned over to LAPD, video showed.
