Garden Grove: Two Men Caught Tunneling Into Strip Mall Using Acetylene Torch

03.23.2019 | 1:45 AM | GARDEN GROVE – Two men were under arrest after being caught attempting to burglarize a strip mall by tunneling in using an acetylene torch, Saturday morning.

Officers responded to reports of a commercial burglary in progress at the Brookhurst Court strip mall located in the 14000 block of Brookhurst Street around 1:45 AM.

Units arriving on scene located one of the two suspects walking away from the scene of the crime and detained him while another bolted and was quickly apprehended a short while later.

During their investigation officers discovered the duo had tunneled into the strip mall using an acetylene torch and was attempting to burglarize the businesses inside when they were interrupted by the officers.

Travis Laguisan, 44 of Westminster, and Anthony Fernandez, 40 of Westminster, were both arrested and being held in lieu of $20,000 bail.

Authorities suspect both may be related to other commercial burglaries in the area but were still investigating.
