06.30.2021 | 2:55 AM | COSTA MESA – A woman was arrested after throwing a rock through a second-story window at a police station and then assaulting an officer after trying to flee, early Wednesday morning.
Employees inside the Costa Mesa Police Department, located at 99 Fair Drive, alerted the on-duty watch commander to the sound of glass breaking on the second-floor of the police station around 2:55 AM.
Upon inspection the watch commander discovered a small hole through a second-story foyer window that had caused the window to shatter.
Patrol officers responded to the area and located an apparently distraught woman who appeared under the influence of alcohol standing in the roadway near Fair and Fordham drives.
The woman, later identified as 20-year-old Samantha Valdez, of Costa Mesa, tried to run before assaulting an officer and resisting arrest, police said.
She was later charged with vandalism, assault on a peace officer, and resisting arrest.
Police say surveillance video from the incident shows that Valdez walked by the police department before picking up a rock and throwing it at the window.
An investigation is ongoing anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact the Investigations Safety Bureau by calling (714) 754-5205.
