Santa Ana: Suspected Out-of-Town Gang Member Arrested In Connection With Downtown Murder

02.03.2022 | 8:30 PM | SANTA ANA – A suspected out-of-town gang member was arrested in connection with a downtown shooting that left a teen dead, police announced Thursday evening.

Police said they arrested 19-year-old Mateo Jerome Paul, of Gardena, in connection with the January 22nd shooting that left 18-year-old Zion Gonzalez, of Moreno Valley, dead.

Both men were involved in an altercation inside the West End Kitchen & Pub, located in the 300 block of West 5th Street, that ended in gunfire.

The altercation, which was captured on surveillance video, led to the identification and arrest of Paul who was charged with murder and being held in the Orange County Jail in lieu of $1,000,000 bail.

Both men were believed to be gang members from outside of Orange County, police added.
