Los Angeles: Man Shot After Attacking Officer With Metal Bar

10.31.2026 | 1:25 PM | LOS ANGELES – A robbery suspected was wounded in an officer-involved shooting after assaulting an officer with a metal bar, Saturday afternoon.

The incident began to unfold as officers responded to reports of a robbery near the intersection of Fourth and Omar streets around 1:25 PM, police said.

When officers arrived they found a suspect holding a metal bar and a tree branch, a statement by police said.

The suspect was ordered to drop the bar and branch but failed to comply leading to officers deploying less-lethal foam projectiles, the statement added.

The less-lethal projectiles were ineffective and the suspect charged officers, striking one with the metal bar and prompting officers to open fire, according to police.

The suspect was struck by the gunfire and later transported to a hospital where he was in stable condition.

The officer that was struck by the metal bar also sustained injuries and was transported to a hospital in stable condition.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the officer-involved shooting is ongoing and prompted the area to be closed to pedestrian and vehicle traffic for several hours.
