08.25.2024 | 2:13 AM | IRVINE – A DUI suspect was under arrest after plowing into a CHP patrol vehicle at the scene of a fatal crash, early Sunday morning.
The crash occurred on the northbound I-5 Freeway just south of Culver Drive around 2:13 AM when the driver of a silver Mercedes-Benz sedan careened into a closure related to an earlier fatal motorcycle crash.
The Mercedes struck a CHP patrol vehicle and a cone, but missed nearby officers and CalTrans workers.
Medics evaluated the driver who refused treatment before being administered a series of field sobriety tests.
Ultimately the driver was placed under arrest on suspicion of DUI.
Possible drug paraphernalia along with a child’s car seat and backpack were discovered inside the Mercedes.
