Costa Mesa: Crash Involving Six Vehicles Leave Motorcyclist Dead

06.16.2021 | 10:10 PM | COSTA MESA – A crash involving at least five vehicles claimed the life of a motorcyclist on an area freeway, Wednesday night.

Callers reported a crash involving a 2014 Audi SUV that collided with a black Yamaha motorcycle on the southbound SR-55 Freeway at Baker Street around 10:10 PM.

Additional callers reported the motorcyclist was ejected and that four other vehicles had collided with their body or bike.

Units arriving on scene pronounced the motorcyclist deceased and diverted all traffic off at Baker Street.

The rider was later identified as 34-year-old Adam Whalen, of Santa Ana.

It was unclear if any other injuries from the crash were reported.

All southbound lanes remained closed until further notice while authorities investigated what led up to the fatal crash.

Another crash involving multiple vehicles, located about a mile north, was reported around the same but not believed to be related.
