03.01.2022 | 5:20 PM | WESTMINSTER – Police are seeking the public’s help locating witnesses and evidence following a fight inside a restaurant that left a 49-year-old man dead, police announced Tuesday.
The fight broke out at the Ocean Blue Restaurant and Lounge, located in the 14500 block of Brookhurst Street, during a “well-attended” Chinese New Year celebration on Feb. 2, 2022 shortly before 1:18 AM.
Paramedics responded to the restaurant and transported a male victim, later identified as 49-year-old Hoang Vo, of Westminster, to a nearby hospital where he was hospitalized for almost two weeks.
On Feb. 14, 2022, Vo succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
An autopsy revealed multiple skull fractures and blunt force trauma to Vo’s head leading officials to classify the death as a homicide.
Police learned that Vo was celebrating with family and friends at the restaurant when a fight between him and several other patrons broke out.
Officials are urging anyone with information regarding the Feb. 2 fight was asked to contact the Westminster Police Department by calling (714) 548-3212.
“The restaurant was well-attended by patrons and employees. We know somebody witnessed the altercation and they are likely afraid to get involved. We urge witnesses to do the right thing and come forward. Please have the courage to help bring closure to the victim’s family,” said Deputy Chief Cameron Knauerhaze.
