04.07.2022 | 7:51 PM | TUSTIN – A man who stabbed three women before barricading himself inside a home was arrested after a standoff, Thursday night.

The incident was reported at a home in the 1300 block of Sun Dial around 7:51 PM.

When authorities arrived on scene they found three adult females suffering from stab wounds and learned that the person who inflicted the injuries had barricaded himself inside a home.

Police surrounded the residence while medics treated the victims at a safe location.

Two of the three victims were transported to area hospitals where they were expected to survive. A third victim was treated on scene but not transported.

After several hours the suspect surrendered and was taken into police custody.

He was identified as 29-year-old Matthew Heraty, of Tustin, and subsequently booked into the Orange County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and elder abuse.

Jail records indicate Heraty is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail. He was also unemployed, the records indicated.

It was unclear what led up to the triple stabbing but a police press release suggested that the victims and suspect were family members.

The release added that Heraty had a background in martial arts and was suffering from mental health issues.
