Tustin: Suspect Arrested After Lengthy Standoff Inside Motel

04.03.2021 | 9:10 AM | TUSTIN – An assault suspect who barricaded himself inside a motel room for hours eventually surrendered to a SWAT team, Saturday afternoon.

The incident began to unfold around 9:10 AM when officers received reports of a possible domestic violence incident at a room inside the Key Inn & Suites, located in the 1600 block of El Camino Real.

When officers arrived on scene they met with a victim who confirmed he was assaulted by a suspect who was reportedly armed with unspecified weapons.

The victim informed officers that the suspect was still at the location destroying a motel room he was in.

Police tried to contact the suspect but he refused to cooperate and barricaded himself inside the motel room.

Nearby rooms were evacuated while a SWAT team and crisis negotiators responded.

After several hours the suspect was taken into custody by SWAT officers without further incident.

Officials identified the suspect as 40-year-old Michael Angelo Gutierrez, of Long Beach.
