12.31.2018 | 11:02 PM | TUSTIN – A rollover crash involving a suspected drunken driver prompted the closure of a freeway off ramp, Monday night.

Authorities responded to reports of a rollover crash on the Red Hill Avenue off ramp from the southbound I-5 freeway around 11:02 PM.

Units arriving on scene found one vehicle on its side with major damage along with several other vehicles stopped.

Firefighter paramedics determined the occupant inside the overturned vehicle was trapped and began efforts to extricate him.

Once rescuers broke out the windshield from the overturned vehicle the victim, who was visibly intoxicated, walked out of the wreckage. He was treated on scene and transported to an area hospital with a police escort.

Several other vehicles suffered damage but it was not immediately clear whether the damage was from debris or actual involvement in the crash.

Officers closed the off ramp for nearly an hour while crews worked to clear the scene of the crash.
