Tustin: Police Use Less-Lethal Munitions To End U-Haul Standoff

05.03.2024 | 8:30 PM | TUSTIN – Police used less-lethal munitions to end a standoff and detain a suspect inside a reportedly stolen U-Haul truck, Friday night.

The incident unfolded in the 15100 block of Woodlawn Avenue after officers stopped a U-Haul truck sometime around 8:30 PM.

The occupants of the truck, a male driver and female passenger, apparently refused to cooperate with law enforcement leading to a standoff situation in a parking lot.

Police surrounded U-Haul truck and attempted to negotiate the peaceful surrender of both occupants.

The female eventually exited and was seen being assessed by medics while the male continued to barricade himself inside the truck.

Eventually officers used 40MM impact munitions and PepperBalls to force the male out of the vehicle.

He too was arrested and treated by medics before being transported to a hospital for medical clearance.

Radio traffic indicated the U-Haul truck was stolen however a police spokesperson did not respond to a request for further information.
