09.16.2019 | 9:29 PM | TUSTIN – Police officers took down a man armed with a knife after a short standoff in a local park, Monday night.
Authorities responded to reports of an assault stemming from a domestic dispute in the 600 block of Halley Drive near the Aviator Park around 9:29 PM.
Units arriving on scene located a male suspect armed with a large kitchen knife in a park across from the initial call location.
Officers attempted to coax the man into surrendering however he refused to comply for several minutes as additional officers raced to the scene to assist.
With the man surrounded by armed officers the man eventually ditched the knife into a trash can before attempting to flee.
A group of officers tackled the man before hogtying him as he continued to struggle.
Firefighter paramedics responded to the scene and evaluated the suspect and initial victim but both refused treatment.
An investigation is ongoing and it was unclear what charges the suspect might face.
