Santa Ana: SWAT Team Arrests Murder Suspect

05.12.2021 | 11:30 PM | SANTA ANA – A murder suspect was arrested by a SWAT team serving a warrant, late Wednesday night.

Officers responded to a home in the 2000 block of South Baker Street, near West Carlton Place, to serve a warrant around 11:30 PM.

Initial reports suggest that a family including small children along with the suspect were located inside the home.

The suspect, who was later identified as 19-year-old Jose Antonio Mejia-Garcia, of Santa Ana, did not immediately surrender but was later taken into custody by a SWAT team without further incident at around 12:40 AM.

Mr. Mejia-Garcia  was wanted in connection with a May 10th, 2021 shooting death of a man in the 1900 block of South Fairview Street.

Police believe the shooting death was related to dispute over a female.

No injuries from the SWAT operation were reported and a 9mm handgun was recovered from the home.
