08.23.2019 | 10:35 PM | SANTA ANA – A stubborn fire burned through a truck for nearly an hour after a crash authorities suspect was linked to a street race, Friday night.
Authorities responded to reports of a traffic collision with fire on the Dyer Road on ramp to the southbound SR-55 Freeway around 10:35 PM.
Units arriving on scene located a pickup truck off the on ramp resting against a tree and fence with fire showing.
Firefighters worked for over an hour to extinguish the stubborn fire which resulted a busted fuel tank in a difficult to access position beneath the vehicle.
A second engine company responded to the scene to assist with additional water and foam.
The driver of the vehicle escaped without injury.
A witness told authorities that the truck was racing another vehicle when it lost control and crashed.
Authorities suspect street-racing was related but the driver would not admit to it.
Multiple individuals in modified vehicles arrived at the scene and could be seen associating with the driver.
The entire on ramp was closed while authorities worked to clear the scene.
