07.04.2021 | 10:30 PM | SANTA ANA – A pursuit involving a stolen vehicle ended with a crash that narrowly missed striking a group of bystanders, Sunday night.
Santa Ana police officers attempted to stop a grey 2021 Ford Edge occupied by a solo driver that had been reported stolen around 10:30 PM.
The driver of the vehicle failed to yield and led officers on a short pursuit that ended with a crash into a fence near the intersection of North Wright and Palm streets.
The suspect attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended near the intersection of North Eastside Avenue and East 4th Street.
Witnesses said a group setting off fireworks in the street was nearly struck by suspect’s vehicle when it crashed.
An officer responding to the pursuit sustained minor injuries when the window of his patrol vehicle broke as he exited. He was evaluated on scene by firefighter paramedics but declined transport.
