Santa Ana: Stolen Vehicle Pursuit Ends With Crash Into Innocent Driver, Fire Hydrant

04.06.2023 | 12:28 AM | SANTA ANA – A pursuit of a reportedly stolen vehicle came to an end when the fleeing vehicle struck an innocent driving before shearing a fire hydrant and coming to rest against a power pole, early Thursday morning.

The pursuit began around 12:28 AM when officers located the reportedly stolen Chevrolet Tahoe near the intersection of South Euclid Street and West Roberts Drive.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver and solo occupant failed to yield, leading authorities on a pursuit that quickly ended when the driver collided with a white Toyota Sienna at the intersection of Edinger Avenue and Newhope Street around 12:31 AM.

The reportedly stolen Chevrolet continued through the intersection after the initial impact, shearing a fire hydrant and coming to rest against a power pole and a parked vehicle.

The driver and solo occupant of the stolen vehicle surrendered to authorities while a large geyser sent water pouring onto overhead power lines.

Medics evaluated both drivers involved in the collision but each declined transport to a hospital for treatment.

Firefighters worked with utility company representatives to shut off power to the overhead lines before stopping the flow of water to the sheared hydrant.
