Santa Ana: Shooting, Crash In Park Playground Prompts Brief School Lockdown

03.01.2022 | 11:59 AM | SANTA ANA – An elementary school was placed on a brief lockdown after a shooting and crash in a nearby park playground injured a man, late Tuesday morning.

Police responded to reports of a shooting and crash with a subject down in Delhi Park, near the 500 block of East Central Avenue, shortly before noon.

When officers arrived they located a black pickup truck in the middle of a playground with damage from a shooting and two men inside.

One of the men, a male adult, sustained an apparent gunshot wound and was treated on scene before being rushed to an area hospital. He was hospitalized in stable condition.

The truck appeared to have accelerated into the park from a nearby parking lot although the exact events that led up to the incident remain under investigation.

School officials said Monroe Elementary School was placed on lockdown for about 15 minutes while authorities responded to the park.

No suspect description was immediately available and anyone with information regarding the incident was asked to contact the Santa Ana Police Department by calling (714) 245-8665.
