Santa Ana: Rowdy Crowd Prevents Firefighters From Responding

07.04.2021 | 11:11 PM | SANTA ANA – A rowdy crowd prevented firefighters from responding to a dumpster fire, late Sunday night.

Callers reported a dumpster fire burning in an apartment complex located in the 700 block of South Lyon Street around 11:11 PM.

While responding to the area police and fire officials were met with a rowdy crowd that attacked them with fireworks and bottles.

Crews retreated to a safe location and awaited a platoon of additional officers outfitted with riot gear to escort them.

The group of over 30 police officers attempted to escort a fire engine to the scene of the fire but continued to be met with an unruly crowd.

Due to the risk to firefighters posed by the crowd and confirmation from a police helicopter that the fire was not threatening any structures, officials withdrew from the area in effort to forego further conflict.

No injuries or arrests were immediately reported.
