Santa Ana: Patrol Vehicle Crash Traps Civilian & Injures Deputies

12.29.2023 | 6:52 PM | SANTA ANA – An Orange County Sheriff’s Department patrol vehicle collided with a civilian vehicle leaving one person trapped and four people injured, Friday evening.

The deputy-involved collision occurred near the intersection of East 17th Street and North Linwood Avenue around 6:52 PM when an unmarked sheriff’s patrol vehicle collided with a grey SUV.

The impact of the collision trapped a passenger in the grey SUV that had to be freed by firefighters using heavy rescue tools.

Both the civilian driver and passenger were transported to UCI Medical Center as “moderate trauma” patients though their exact prognosis was not immediately known.

The patrol vehicle was occupied by two sheriff’s deputies who were transported to St. Joseph’s hospital in unknown condition.

The circumstances surrounding the collision were not immediately known.
