Santa Ana: ‘No Kings’ Protest Ends With Violent Encounters

06.14.2025 | 10:00 PM | SANTA ANA – A “No Kings” protest in downtown Santa Ana, initially peaceful, devolved into violent confrontations late Saturday night as police moved to disperse crowds engaged in what authorities described as dangerous and illegal conduct.

Thousands of protesters had gathered earlier in the day, rallying against aggressive immigration enforcement tactics and expressing strong opposition to President Donald J. Trump, whom they held responsible for such policies. The demonstration began with a peaceful march around the downtown area, drawing a large turnout.

However, as the evening progressed, a segment of the protest began to engage in illicit activities. Witnesses reported individuals consuming alcohol and nitrous oxide, launching illegal fireworks, and performing dangerous “doughnuts” and other reckless driving maneuvers. These actions prompted a police response to address the escalating safety concerns.

The situation escalated further when a responding police vehicle was reportedly confronted by a group of individuals who began launching bottles and rocks at it.

Shortly after midnight, police mobilized, forming a skirmish line and declaring the assembly unlawful. As officers began to push protesters back in an effort to disperse the crowd, several individuals reportedly launched bottles, drinks, and fireworks at officers. In response, police utilized volleys of less-than-lethal impact weapons to drive the protesters back until the area was largely cleared.

Several arrests were observed being made, though a total number was not immediately available at the time of publication. There were no immediate reports of injuries to protesters or officers.

Adding to the chaotic scene, several members of the media from various outlets reported being harassed or assaulted by individuals within the protest crowd.
