Santa Ana: Homeless Encampment Found Burning Along Freeway

10.10.2020 | 2:43 AM | SANTA ANA – A homeless encampment was found burning alongside a busy freeway, early Saturday morning.

Callers first reported the fire burning along the SR-55 Freeway near Dyer Road around 2:43 AM.

Crews arriving on scene located the blaze that had consumed a homeless encampment hidden in bushes alongside the freeway.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze before it could spread.

No transients were found at the camp which was seriously damaged by the blaze.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and no injuries were reported.

CalTrans is expected to respond and clean up debris from the fire.
