Santa Ana: Gun Recovered In First Officer-Involved Shooting of 2026

01.01.2026 | 5:35 PM | SANTA ANA – Nobody was struck but a firearm was recovered following what was believed to be Orange County’s first officer-involved shooting of 2026.

The officer-involved shooting occurred in the 1700 block of South Evergreen Street when gang detectives opened fire on a subject believed to be armed around 5:35 PM.

The suspect was not struck by the gunfire and “subsequent use of force” was employed to subdue them.

The suspect was transported to a hospital for medical clearance. It was unclear what charges they were facing.

A firearm, believed to be the suspect’s, was recovered at the scene.

A large crime scene was established while police investigate the officer-involved shooting.
