Santa Ana: Man Armed With Imitation Rifle Shot Dead In Altercation With Police

12.01.2024 | 5:30 PM | SANTA ANA – A man armed with an imitation rifle was shot dead by police during an altercation, Sunday evening.

Police responded to reports of a man loading a rifle-style firearm in a downtown parking lot near the intersection of North Broadway and West 2nd Street around 5:30 PM.

When officers located the man, described only as a male Hispanic in his 30s, an altercation occurred with officers prompting them to open fire.

First responders attempted lifesaving measures and transported him to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

The rifle-style firearm was later determined to be a replica. No officers or bystanders were injured, police said.

The California Department of Justice is investigating the officer-involved shooting.
