Santa Ana: DUI Driver Arrested After Crashing Into Police Officer Responding To Pursuit

03.20.2020 | 10:03 PM | SANTA ANA – A suspected DUI driver was in custody after a crash involving a police officer who was responding to a pursuit, Friday night.

Authorities attempted to stop a dark-colored BMW for a traffic violation while breaking up a car meet shortly before 10:00 PM.

The driver of the BMW failed to yield to officers and blacked-out the vehicle while fleeing on city streets at speeds in excess of 100 MPH.

Officers chased the vehicle eastbound on Edinger Avenue when another officer who was attempting to get into position was involved in a crash with another vehicle.

The crash left both vehicles mangled but the officer and civilian driver were both uninjured.

Officers administered field sobriety tests on scene before placing the civilian driver into custody on suspicion of DUI.

It was unclear if the pursuit vehicle was ever located or if officers discontinued the chase.
