Santa Ana: Driver Escapes After Pursuit Crash, Passenger Apprehended

01.12.2021 | 12:40 AM | SANTA ANA – A man who led officers on a brief pursuit before crashing was on the loose but his female passenger was apprehended, early Tuesday morning.

The chase began around 12:40 AM when officers attempted to stop a gold 1997 Toyota Camry occupied by a male driver and female passenger for a traffic infraction.

The driver of the vehicle fled from officers onto the southbound I-5 Freeway before quickly exiting onto East Santa Ana Boulevard.

Initial reports indicate the driver was unable to negotiate the turn and crashed into a fire hydrant and a chain link fence before fleeing on foot.

Officers surrounded the area and apprehended the female passenger but the male driver was not immediately located despite the efforts of a police helicopter and K-9.

It’s unclear what, if any, charges the female passenger might face.
