Santa Ana: Building Gutted By Massive Fire

06.28.2021 | 11:27 PM | SANTA ANA – A massive fire gutted what appeared to be an abandoned building, late Sunday night.

The fire was reported at a building in the 1400 block of East 17th Street, near North Wright Street, around 11:27 PM.

When crews arrived on scene they were met with heavy fire showing through the roof of a single-story commercial building that appeared to have been abandoned.

The building had suffered a partial roof collapse prompting firefighters to take up a defensive strategy where they attacked flames from the exterior.

That strategy proved sound when two more roof collapses occurred during the firefight.

After about one and one-half hours the bulk of the fire had been extinguished with no serious injuries reported.

A nearby Planned Parenthood building was spared from serious damage.

Fire investigators are on scene working to determine the cause of the fire.
