Santa Ana: Backup From Crash With Fire Causes Another Crash

04.24.2021 | 1:51 AM | SANTA ANA – A crash that occurred in a traffic backup caused by another crash with fire left one person injured, early Saturday morning.

The first crash was reported on the northbound SR-55 Freeway just south of Edinger Avenue, near the Santa Ana-Tustin border, around 1:51 AM.

Officers arriving on scene located a two-car crash involving a grey Chevrolet Camaro and a black Chevrolet Volt.

A tire from the Camaro had caught fire but was quickly extinguished by a fast-acting California Highway Patrol officer.

As traffic became congested near the initial crash scene, a second collision occurred just north of Warner Avenue around 2:14 AM.

That crash, involving a blue SUV and another vehicle, left one person injured.

Firefighter paramedics transported the injured party to a nearby hospital in unknown condition.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances that led up to each crash however drugs or alcohol were not immediately suspected.
