Placentia: Apparent Oil Leak Prompts Hazmat Response

12.19.2022 | 3:08 PM | PLACENTIA – A substance believed to be oil seeped up from a crack in the ground of a residential neighborhood prompting a response by fire department officials, Monday afternoon.

The incident was reported in the 400 block of Heenan Way around 3:08 PM when a caller reported seeing an unknown substance seeping up from the crack in the ground near a home.

When crews arrived they cordoned off the area to the public and the news media before requesting a hazmat team from an outside agency.

The substance, which neighbors said they believe is oil from a nearby oil field, was seen being sopped up with absorbent pads.

Police and fire officials declined to comment regarding the incident.
