Orange: Motorcyclist Killed After Running Red Light, Being Struck By Suspected DUI Driver

09.21.2021 | 10:14 PM | ORANGE – A motorcyclist was killed after running a red light and being struck by a suspected DUI driver in another vehicle, Tuesday night.

The crash occurred around 10:14 PM in the northbound lanes of The City Drive South, near the I-5 Freeway, when the motorcycle rider ran a red light and was struck by an Toyota FJ Cruiser that was existing the freeway.

The rider, who is not believed to have been wearing a helmet, sustained major injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene by firefighter paramedics who happened across the incident.

The rider’s identity was not immediately available.

Officers later determined that although the motorcycle rider was at fault, the driver of the Toyota was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

As a result the driver of the Toyota, later identified as 50-year-old Eric Granit, of Long Beach, was placed under arrest and expected to be charged with DUI and vehicular manslaughter.
