Orange: Second-Alarm Fire Guts Former YMCA Building Near Park

10.16.2021 | 1:02 AM | ORANGE – A second-alarm fire gutted what appeared to be a former YMCA building and also spread to nearby vegetation inside a park, early Saturday morning.

The fire was reported shortly after 1:00 AM at a building located in the 2200 block of East Palmyra Avenue.

Crews arriving on scene located heavy fire showing from the rear of the building along with flames that had spread to nearby brush.

Firefighters quickly doused the vegetation and went to work extinguishing the building fire.

It took just over an hour for knockdown of the building fire to be declared.

The building appeared to have sustained major damage on the inside.

A second-alarm was declared and additional units, including a hazmat team, responded due to the extent of the fire and reports of possible methane gas inside the structure.

No injuries to firefighters or civilians were immediately reported.

Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
