Orange: Driver Killed After Truck Crashes Into Fire Hydrant & Pole

09.22.2019 | 2:38 AM | ORANGE – One person was dead after the truck they were traveling in collided with a fire hydrant before striking a pole at high-speeds, early Sunday morning.

Authorities responded to reports of a traffic collision involving a fire hydrant and possibly entrapment at the intersection of North Tustin Street and East Vanowen Avenue around 2:38 AM.

Crews arriving on scene located a white pickup truck that had struck a fire hydrant causing a large geyser before coming to rest against a traffic signal pole.

Firefighter paramedics pronounced the driver and solo occupant of the truck deceased on scene.

With the assistance of city works personnel firefighters were able secure the sheared fire hydrant within 30 minutes.

Officers cordoned off the scene and stopped all traffic on North Tustin Street between East Katella and Chestnut avenues until further notice.

Video from the scene shows the female driver of a red sedan being placed into custody at the scene however it was unknown if the incidents were related.

An investigation is ongoing and police are calling the area surrounding the crash a “crime scene.”
