06.15.2021 | 3:54 PM | NEWPORT BEACH – One person was killed in a two-car crash involving a vehicle that was speeding, according to a California Highway Patrol incident log.

The crash was reported on the southbound SR-73 Freeway just north of Jamboree Road shortly before 4:00 PM.

When units arrived on scene they located a two-car crash involving an older model red vehicle and a white 2020 BMW 540i, the log indicated.

The red vehicle was overturned and one person inside was pronounced deceased upon the arrival of first responders.

Four other victims, all from the BMW, were evaluated by paramedics but refused medical treatment, according to radio traffic.

One witness reported that the BMW was driving recklessly and traveling at high-speeds prior to the collision, the log indicated.

A blood technician was requested to perform an evidentiary blood draw on one of the individuals from the crash in an apparent DUI investigation.

All lanes of the southbound SR-73 Freeway were closed at the SR-55 Freeway until about 7:50 PM while authorities investigated the fatal crash.
