Newport Beach: Resident Shoots, Kills Intruder

08.26.2021 | 4:13 AM | NEWPORT BEACH – A resident shot and killed a man who forced his way into their home, early Thursday morning.

The shooting occurred shortly after 4:13 AM at a home near the intersection of Indus Street and Redlands Drive.

Officers were responding to area regarding a person who was possibly under the influence or suffering from mental health issues when the shooting occurred.

Initial reports from police indicate that the male subject forced his way into a residence prompting the resident to open fire.

The subject was pronounced deceased on scene. His identity was not immediately released.

A homicide investigation is underway but it was unclear whether the homeowner might face charges.
