05.19.2023 | 10:32 PM | NEWPORT BEACH – A person was found suffering from a gunshot wound near the Newport Beach Pier and a felon was later arrested in connection with the shooting, Friday night.
Authorities responded to reports of a gunshot victim at the Newport Beach Pier, located at 1 Newport Pier, around 10:32 PM, according to radio traffic.
When authorities arrived they located an adult male victim near the base of the pier suffering from a gunshot wound.
Medics treated the shooting victim at the scene and rushed them to an area trauma center with non-life-threatening injuries, according to a press release.
Police cordoned off the area where the victim was found and learned that a altercation occurred between the victim and a male adult suspect.
The suspect was later identified as 30-year-old Austin Knott, of Costa Mesa, and arrested on numerous charges including attempted murder, felon in possession of ammunition, and felon in possession of a dirk or dagger.
It was unclear if the weapon used in the shooting was recovered.
