10.16.2021 | 12:03 AM | NEWPORT BEACH – A man was murdered near the Newport Pier and a suspect is under arrest, early Saturday morning.

The incident was reported as an assault near the Newport Pier shortly after midnight.

When officers arrived they located an adult male victim down near the pier.

First responders attempted to revive the victim but later pronounced him deceased on scene.

Initial reports indicate the victim was involved with an altercation with another male shortly before he was found.

The male suspect who is believed to be responsible was taken into police custody. Although police have withheld his identity sources say, and jail records confirm, that 22-year-old Ezekial Izaiah Person was arrested and being held without bail by Newport Beach police.

He was the only person arrested by Newport Beach police on October 16, the records indicate, and his occupation is listed as a security guard.

Person has a prior conviction in Orange County for assault and battery but police thus far have refused to confirm his involvement in the homicide.

The identity of the victim was not immediately released and police believe the incident to be isolated.
