Victim is 69-year-old female who was run over by suspects after they opened fire. A person was killed in a reported robbery attempt at a high-end shoppign center; The incident was reported as a possible robbery with a gun at the Fashion Island shopping center; Preliminary reports indicate several suspects armed with a firearm attempted a robbery; During the attempt a person was shot; Medics pronounced the shooting victim deceased on scene; Several of the suspects fled, eventually leading officers on a high-speed pursuit that ended in the Cypress area (near Holder and Valley View); One suspect was reportedly arrested hiding in or near the shopping center; Per radio traffic at least one firearm was ditched, possibly during the pursuit; Additional details were not immediately available and the investigation remains active. Per City News Service: NEWPORT BEACH (CNS) - A woman was killed and another person seriously injured Tuesday during a robbery and shooting near the Barnes & Noble bookstore at Fashion Island in Newport Beach. Initial reports from police indicated a mid-afternoon robbery at the shopping mall led to one of the suspects opening fire, seriously injuring one victim, an official said. While the suspects were fleeing, a woman described as "elderly" was fatally shot, officials said. There was no immediate description of a suspect or how many people were involved. KCAL9 reported that suspects in the shooting led authorities on a pursuit that led into the South Gate area of Los Angeles County. That chase came to an end near Lincoln Avenue and Paramount boulevard, where two suspects got out and fled into a neighborhood, attempting to hide in the yards of some homes. At least one of those suspects eventually surrendered to police. According to KCAL9, several other people bailed out of the suspects' vehicle prior to the pursuit coming to an end. There was no immediate confirmation from police on whether the chase suspects were connected to the Newport shooting.
