04.09.2024 | 1:03 AM | IRVINE – A wrong-way driver was under arrest thanks to the help of CCTV traffic cameras, early Tuesday morning.
Callers reported a grey Honda Pilot traveling northbound in southbound lanes of the I-405 Freeway near Culver Drive shortly after 1:00 AM.
Additional callers reported the vehicle had reached Jamboree Road where it turned around and exited.
Although Irvine police did not have officers available to response, police dispatchers utilized citywide CCTV traffic cameras to track the Honda’s location while relaying the information to CHP officers.
Eventually officers spotted the Honda turn from southbound Jamboree Road to eastbound MacArthur Boulevard while traveling wrong-way.
Officers blocked the path of the Honda at MacArthur Boulevard and Fairchild Road where they removed the male driver and passenger.
After administering field sobriety tests, officers arrested the driver on suspicion of DUI.
