Mission Viejo: Slow-Speed Pursuit Ends With Dramatic Takedown

05.30.2021 | 12:15 AM | MISSION VIEJO – A slow-speed pursuit of a Hadley roadside assistance vehicle ended with a dramatic takedown, early Sunday morning.

Officers tried to stop the Toyota Prius with Hadley Tow decals after it nearly struck another vehicle on Chapman Avenue near the SR-55 Freeway in Orange.

The driver of the vehicle failed to yield and fled from officers at slow to moderate speeds in the North Tustin area before continuing eastbound through Irvine and Lake Forest into Mission Viejo.

The suspect became surrounded after he turned into a cul-de-sac in the 23600 block of Via Chiripa but still refused to give-up.

Officers had to pull the suspect from the vehicle before taking him into custody without further incident.

During the takedown a patrol vehicle was struck by the Prius which appeared to have been left in gear.

Initial reports suggest the Prius was being serviced at a auto shop in Orange when it went missing.
