The incident began to unfold late Wednesday as authorities responded to reports of a traffic collision involving a dark-colored truck that has struck multiple parked vehicles in the 24000 block of Calle Vecindad around 11:47 PM.

When deputies arrived they located a man in the truck armed with a knife who was refusing to exit.

Members of the Orange County Sheriff’s Crisis Negotiations Team talked with the man for hours before he exited his truck armed with a knife around 2:45 AM.

The knife-wielding man reportedly charged at deputies leading to a deputy-involved shooting that left the man injured.

Firefighter paramedics rushed the man to nearby hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. His identity was not immediately released.

No deputies or bystanders were injured in the shooting which will be investigated by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office per standard protocol.

The man’s knife was recovered at the scene and the deputies involved were equipped with body-worn cameras, officials said.
