Laguna Niguel: Suspicious Package Scare Prompts Evacuation of Federal Building

02.27.2023 | 2:30 PM | LAGUNA NIGUEL – Substances later identified as cosmetics and baby powder prompted the evacuation of a federal building along with a daycare while hazmat teams responded, Monday afternoon.

Authorities were alerted to the suspicious package containing an unknown substance at the Chet Holifield Federal Building, located in the 24000 block of Avila Road, around 2:30 PM.

The federal building and a daycare associated with it were evacuated while hazmat teams responded to inspect the substance.

After analyzing the substances hazmat specialists identified them as cosmetics and baby powder that did not pose a threat to the public.

Officials said they did not believe the items were sent with malicious intent.
