Laguna Niguel: SWAT Team Arrests Suspect Who Shot At Police Helicopter

03.09.2024 | 8:45 PM | LAGUNA NIGUEL – A man who reportedly opened fire on a police helicopter with a rifle was taken into custody by a SWAT team, Saturday night.

Deputies responding to a welfare check heard the gunfire and ultimately determined it was coming from a home in the 10 block of Sand Oaks Road around 8:45 PM.

A male suspect armed with a rifle was located and ultimately opened fire on the Orange County Sheriff’s Department helicopter, Duke One, in what was described as an “active shooter incident”, according to radio traffic.

After a short while the suspect surrendered by laying face down in the middle of a street and was taken into custody by a SWAT team, video shows.

Radio traffic indicated the suspect is male who turned 39-years-old on the date of the incident.

There were no injuries from the incident and there is no outstanding threat to the public, according to the sheriff’s department.
