
05.20.2022 | 6:30 PM | LAGUNA NIGUEL – A pedestrian was killed in a chain-reaction crash that resulted in a women being arrested for DUI, police announced Friday.
The incident began to unfold when officers were dispatched to reports of a pedestrian walking in lanes on the southbound I-5 Freeway, south of Crown Valley Parkway around 10:51 PM on May 18, 2022.
While officers were still responding, the driver of a grey Tesla Model 3 struck the 20-year-old male pedestrian.
The driver of the Tesla, a 44-year-old man from Oceanside, left his vehicle in lanes and ran to a nearby shoulder for safety before his vehicle was struck by a speeding white BMW X1 driven by a 29-year-old woman from Vista.
The BMW was then struck by a red Porsche 911 driven by a 57-year-old man from San Clemente.
Officers later determined that the driver of the BMW was DUI and placed her under arrest.
It remains unclear why the pedestrian was walking in lanes at the time of the crash.
