Irvine: Two Women Detained As Hazmat Incident Unfolds In Apartment Complex

02.02.2023 | 6:43 PM | IRVINE – Two women were detained as a hazmat incident unfolded inside an upscale apartment complex, Thursday night.

The incident began to unfold when authorities responded to reports of a gas odor at The Village apartments located in the 50 block of Prism, near Spectrum, around 6:43 PM.

When authorities arrived they determined the the smell was the result of an apparent chemical spill inside an apartment.

Two occupants from the apartment were evacuated and evaluated by medics before being detained by police.

A contingent of first responders arrived at the apartment complex and was working to mitigate the unspecified chemicals.

Unconfirmed reports from neighbors indicate that the apartment may have been host to a drug lab.

Fire officials cleared the scene by 1:00 AM Friday morning although officials from the police, sheriff, and health departments were still on scene investigating.
