Irvine: Two Injured In Fiery Crash

10.10.2023 | 10:12 PM | IRVINE – Two people were rushed to area hospitals following a fiery crash that ignited vegetation, Tuesday night.

The fiery crash occurred in the westbound lanes of Portola Parkway just east of the SR-261 toll road when a vehicle departed the roadway for unknown reasons, around 10:12 PM.

When authorities arrived on scene they found a vehicle off the side of the road engulfed in flames and two victims from the crash nearby.

Both victims were treated by medics while crews worked to extinguish the vehicle fire which was spreading to nearby vegetation. The victims were rushed from the scene to nearby hospitals via ambulance though the extent of their injuries was not immediately available.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire before it could spread any further in what is considered a high fire risk area.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
