Irvine: Truck Split In Half Leaves Driver Trapped, Debris Punctures Windshield of Passing Tesla

03.02.2025 | 12:16 AM | IRVINE – Three people were injured in a crash that split a truck in half and sent debris flying into the windshield of a Tesla, early Sunday morning.

The collision was reported on the southbound I-405 Freeway just north of the I-5 Freeway when a pickup truck collided with a gore point between the HOV and mainline lanes around 12:16 AM.

Debris from the impact went flying across lanes and some of the debris reportedly penetrated the windshield of a blue Tesla Model Y.

Medics arriving on scene worked for about 20 minutes to free the driver of the pickup truck who became trapped in the wreckage before tending to the driver and passenger of the Tesla.

All three victims were rushed to nearby trauma centers. The driver and passenger of the Tesla were said to have sustained major injuries, according to CHP radio traffic.

All southbound lanes of the I-405 Freeway were stopped for over an hour while authorities investigated.
