Irvine: SWAT Standoff Ends After Nearly 9 Hours

12.01.2021 | 6:00 PM | IRVINE – A domestic violence suspect believed to be armed with a firearm was apprehended after an hours-long standoff with a SWAT team, early Thursday morning.

The incident began to unfold around 6:00 PM when officers responded to a domestic violence incident at the Elements Apartments, located in the 1000 block of Elements Way, near Campus Drive.

At some point the suspect, who was believed to be in possession of a firearm, barricaded himself inside an apartment prompting a standoff.

A SWAT team along with crisis negotiators responded and worked for hours before safely apprehending the suspect around 2:00 AM.

Additional details regarding the nearly 9 hour long standoff were not immediately available.
