Irvine: Suspected DUI Crash Leaves One Dead, Another Under Arrest

09.27.2021 | 4:11 AM | IRVINE – A 61-year-old woman was dead and a 21-year-old man was under arrest after a suspected DUI crash, early Monday morning.

The crash was reported around 4:11 AM at the intersection of Irvine Center Drive and Sand Canyon Avenue.

When authorities arrived on scene they located a Toyota Prius that had collided with a Mercedes-Benz C300.

One of the drivers, 61-year-old Kyu Chen, of Irvine, was injured and rushed to a hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

The other driver, 21-year-old Luis Marcial Diaz, of Irvine, was placed under arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence.

All directions of traffic in the area of the crash were expected to be closed until about 11:00 AM while authorities continued to investigate.
